Behind the Artwork
Meral Akyuz has been painting for a decade with beeswax (encaustic) paints. Her work has meticulous layers of vivid, bright hues that are fused together to yield vibrant, abstract pieces. Sources of inspiration for Akyuz include bold color palettes, city landscapes and linear architecture. Meral's encaustic paintings are enhanced with the use of mixed media; she frequently uses decorative papers, thread, oil sticks, ink and other collage materials to display intricate details. Her paintings have been featured nationally in galleries in New York, New Jersey, California and Florida. Currently, Meral Akyuz lives in Hoboken, NJ with her husband, Antonio, and their two cats, Simba and Grover.
